I turned around to take a glance,
At the bygone history in all its expanse;
Trying to envision, a moment, a phase,
Of no pain, no fear , no cries in the human race;
Like a wind, tearing at all that it gets to see,
They all roared back lashing at me;
Riots,Wars and Subjugation,Genocides,Violence and Slavery;
Acts of terror in the name of reign or bravery;
Not a single moment could I find
Of absolute calm in the realms of mankind;
Arrogance, Fanaticism, Greed, Trick and Treason.
Each and every page bellowed its own reason;
Patches aplenty cover the visage of earth
Dark and morbid, or light and in mirth
The hues keep moving, they don't remain the same
The mammoth wheels of time playing their jigsaw game
The grass that is red and sometimes yellow
One day becomes green, the sun providing the glow
Is this the cycle of of life , Of existence?
A question beyond the reaches of my cognizance!
For now, I close my eyes in obeisance and utter a silent prayer;
For peace to prevail forever and forever!

Beautiful poem! All of us do ask so many unanswerable questions when we read some horrifying news and end up with praying!
ReplyDeleteWe all join your prayer "For peace to prevail forever and forever!"
Best wishes!
Thanks Ranjani :) I agree....Some questions simply dont have answers within our reach....
DeleteWonderfully written Jaish! May be prayer is the only thing we can do to end "Riots,Wars and Subjugation,Genocides,Violence and Slavery;
ReplyDeleteActs of terror in the name of reign or bravery;"
Thanks Rajrupa.....I heard somewhere that a prayer for someone is also a service....Easy but powerful...

DeleteLovely Jaish :) ...

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Panchali. You rightly captured what I was trying to say.
DeleteHi Jayashree
ReplyDeleteYour vision of Peace on Earth? I guess we need to find that inner space that is calm and devoid of hatred.
Reminded me of Lennon's "Imagine".
I looked that up in Google as I had not heard it earlier... :) Thanks for stepping in and for the comment...Inner Peace can definitely lead to external peace as well...Rt?
DeleteLoved it..read it twice..and again..what made you write this?
ReplyDeleteHi FIF
DeleteThese are things I put my battered brain through at times...When I thought of posting these pics, thought of clubbing it with poetry...Glad that you liked it
Beautiful and peace inducing. Very profound question on the cycle of life. The pictures gave an added dimension to the overall beauty of the poem. I will definitely visit the temple, when I come to Singapore someday.

DeleteThough I have visited Singapore many times, I haven't been there. I have beent o Ladakh to the monasteries like Hemis, Thiksey, Stok etc. One can find peace in these surroundings as well as in the mountains. Ofcourse, till the time we don't mend our ways, it is not easy to find peace anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt's a peaceful temple rt in the middle of the city . Very nice place . Do visit next time !

Very beautiful and profound. You are equally brilliant in fiction and poetry. Nice images of the temple, would love to visit one day. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved these lines:
"For now, I close my eyes in obeisance and utter a silent prayer;
For peace to prevail forever and forever!" :)
Hi Akshay
DeleteDo visit when possible. Thanks a ton for the appreciation!:)
Oh...my!!! You write SUCH beautiful poetry. I loved this!
ReplyDeleteThat was such a wonderful comment . Thanks Antara :)
ReplyDeleteThis poem is indeed a Beautiful contemplation indeed on the wheel that was invented without ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ in the remote past.
ReplyDelete… Is this the cycle of of life, Of existence?...
Answer is all the strife is invented by the civilized societies just 5000 years ago, the gods they invented added to the misery of the lower strata of civil society, through their branded religions… for 5K years. Our faiths may not agree, yet the fact remains.
