There are some silly momentary things in life that can give us immense pleasure, excitement and a feeling of fun. It does not have to be a vacation to an exotic location or a big achievement in studies or work.
Like yesterday I got a new toothbrush. Just opening the pack and using it for the first time fills me with a childish excitement. What the heck! A toothbrush is a toothbrush....But unwrapping it in its pristine form and using it for the first time is fun, isn't it?The same does apply to taking a new bar of soap and using it for the first time! :D
When I buy a new notebook and start writing on it, it feels good! Its like a symbolic representation of a new start, a fresh beginning with unlimited possibilities. The smell of fresh paper and the way the ink starts making forms and meanings on it is wonderful.
When the tube light becomes old and we replace it with a new one - Switch it on and Whoa! The world is suddenly much more brighter....
When we rearrange some shelf and once we are done with the task - the neat organized appearance definitely lifts our spirits a bit!
When you get something free with something that you buy....It could be a floor cleaner bottle free with a toilet cleaner...free is free for the customer...Those companies know this psychology and they make the best use of it...Buy 2 get 1 free, buy 1 get the other free, buy a tshirt get a cap , buy soap get shampoo, buy biscuits get a pencil..The list goes on ....They make sure to cater to the age group...As kids a miniature figure of a cartoon character or a simple sticker can make our day....Become adults and it needs to be more sensible though!
I remember the scene from a Tamil movie where the college going heroine is excited about a kaleidoscope that her neighboring little boy has. He refuses to show it to her and she goes to a very crowded market to get one for herself. The hero braves the crowd and manages to get her one and she gets super happy on getting it in her hands....
So what silly things make you happy?

I read your post... I do play hide n seek sometimes with my son and his friends :)
DeleteNothing to beat small pleasures of life, Jaishree:)
ReplyDeleteSpot on there Rahul :)
DeleteIndeed Jaish. Me too. I in fact love the smell of fresh tea when the vaccuum pack is opened for the first time that my wife always calls me to cut the ribbon (read tea pack seal) and inaugurate every new pack of tea.
ReplyDeleteThat smell is heavenly, I agree :)
DeleteYes true. I got completely happy when I got my sofa cleaned by professionals, then as you say, when I open a new book to write..:)
ReplyDeleteTrue. Getting something spic n span does make one happy
DeleteGreat, Jaishree! Thank you:)
ReplyDeleteI must thank you for reading and commenting :)
DeleteTrue Jaish... It is a blessing to enjoy each moment of life be it silly or something small
ReplyDeleteThat's what life is all about I think :)
DeleteA fresh change of bed sheets, a good hair day, a good skin day and many more....small pleasures of life.
ReplyDeleteYes, how did I forget the fresh change of bedsheets... I am with you on that one
DeleteIt is the mundane we always ignore in the quest for something big and better...Nice post which makes you aware of little joys of life!
ReplyDeleteYes we do ignore small things don't we? Thanks for visiting
DeleteI like new erasers. I have a box full of them, different colors and shapes. I use one edge at a time and love seeing the sharp edges getting rounded off. Once rounded off I loose my interest and try out another eraser. Funny I never thought of this before till I read your post. :)
ReplyDeleteI love new stationery too....
Deletewhen i was kid,new bubblegums called bigfun came first time in the market.they used to sell bubblegums with soccer player pics and goals they have scored and country they belong to during fifa world cup.it was huge hit.we used to buy to just check which player we got.there was another campaign during cricket world cup with cricketer pics.if we collect so many runs or wickets, one can win a cricket bat signed by kapil dev or gavaskar. i think they have made millions with this campaign.
ReplyDeletewhen you make a phone out of matchboxes with salty thread to play with kids.and when i write on a new blog without hesitation. :-)
after some age,i never bought things at discount or when they gave something free coz i know they are defective or outdated.to be frank, little things or silly things never made me much happy when i was kid.i used to be more happy whenever i help people or whenever i gave away something to others.
My husband told me about those cricketing stickers.... What you are talking about is genuine happiness... GOD bless you
DeleteI have a sign in my room that says "Simple Pleasures of life" below which I have my desk of cluttered junk :)
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely pleasure... The " it's my way here" feel...:)
DeleteHappiness in life comes from an accumulation of small joys, Jaish :) The big ones are like a gigantic party - they only leave you with a hangover :)
ReplyDeleteVery true Suresh.. Big ones don't happen everyday either
DeleteAnything that makes you happy cannot be silly.
ReplyDeleteWaking up to a cool morning, the tinkling of chimes, a meaningful conversation, humour, wit are some of the things that make me happy.
Hmm.... Thats a profound thought and I guess you are right
DeleteYes Jaish small things break the monotony and refresh our mood.
ReplyDeleteFor me too it is fresh clean sheets and a cup of aromatic nice tea.
The words "aromatic nice tea" alone have a rejuvenating effect :)
DeleteI know what you mean. I've been excited to use a new toothbrush, last week.
ReplyDeleteThe joy those little things can bring. That feeling after the dishes are done and the kitchen counters wiped, a bright sunny day after several days of rain (or the other way round :D )...
The other day a friend gave us some sugarcane that they found at a farmer's market; it's almost a wonder to see one around here. You know what I mean. ;)
Of course ha ha.... Thats like reaching income weird location on earth and finding an indian restaurant nearby :)
Delete:) OH yes definitely .. and also its the small things that keep you smiling for LONGER toooo :)
ReplyDeleteBikram's
With you on this completely! In fact your words created a wonderful imagery and I saw myself doing the same too. That child-like happiness for small things is such a wonderful feeling. :)
ReplyDeleteYes it is... Thanks Shilpa
Deletesmall things give great pleasure... even playing with babies, getting wet in the rain, getting a new set of diary, pen gives a lot of happiness. thanks for sharing !!
ReplyDeleteWaking up in the middle of the night and realizing that I have a few more hours to sleep makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteIf you are unable to get back to sleep that's tough but yes the groggy half sleeping state is bliss
DeleteThe little joys of life are often the most trivial of objects! I love being surprised with impromptu cards of any kind! This post has triggered some pleasant memories :)
ReplyDelete@KalaRavi16 from
Relax-N-Rave
Yes of course.....who does not like those? :)
DeleteAbsolutely Jaish. Life is in its moments and moments are brightened by the teeniest things. All that u mentioned gives me joy and the smell of rain, smell of cooking as I cook, people's smiles, my dog's joyful welcome to me all day etc etc :D
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sunilavigauthor.blogspot.com.au/2016/04/dadheechi-or-dadhyanga-for-alphabet-d.html

A smallest new thing when added in my wardrobe for instance a pair of socks or even a hand-towel makes everything new in my eyes!!! Lifes small pleasures makes one happy, I think majority of us :)
ReplyDeleteYes you are right.... Yet we sometimes keep running after big things which we think will make us happy
DeleteIt is indeed so amazing that such a small action / thought could have a profound effect on our mind and spirit. Beautifully written Jaish. Struck a happy chord in me. Life is no fun without these small things. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love these tiny things that brighten my life. Seeing a flower bloom on my plant, getting a new book does not prevent me from taking a deep whiff, getting a new pair of shoes and clothes gives me a high. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember having such a feeling opening up the box of my first iPhone, I so opened it with clean hands and very gently ☺️
